Lab 6: WordPress.com blog

Objectives: You are going to investigate WordPress.com and setup and create your own blog. You are to have a "blog" link on your website and link to this blog.

 

Resources: Check out class materials and online book (see syllabus for name and link --you must be logged into CSUEB library site with your netid to use).

Definition of Problem:

 

  1. Go to WordPress.com after reading the assigned online book material (see class website on WordPress module) and create your own blog. The blog must be related to the mission of your website. Make at least 2 postings to your blog. The design of the blog look and feel is up to you ---WordPress has a number of "themes" available for us ---choose one that integrates best with your web site design...or make your own.
  2. You will need to save the information of how to get to this blog and use the url to link into your webiste.
  3. Upload your updated web site (with the links now to your blog)
  4. Test the link and ofcourse test the blog itself to make sure it is funcitoning....make at least a few posts to your blog.

Deliverables

  1. Upload all of your web-pages (remember their navigation bars altered with link to blog page) and any related content that is altered or new using Dreamweaver file transfer (you set up the site in part 1) into your server account under your public_html directory ( Make sure all the files and directories have file mode (permissions) of 755.
  2. Test out your site by typing in the url (http://puzzle.sci.csueastbay.edu/~YOURLOGIN) ---this should go to your index.htm page --- Test it in IE and Firefox and Chrome browsers. Make sure blog links work.
  3. Test out blog itself in different browsers
  4. Turn in the following information Blackboard->Lab->Lab6

    • URL to website (e.g http://puzzle.sci.csueastbay.edu/~YOURLOGIN/index.htm)
    • URL to blog on wordpress.com
