The idea here is to develop a tool for use in command and control of
Disaster Recovery Operations (think "9/11"). It would allow
a display of the current area in an image or map form and visualized
also would be intelligence information/reports of the ongoing recovery
mission. Hence the uncertainty in these information/reports will be
visualized to assist the commander in making recovery decisions. So,
some uncertainty information can be visualized such as areas searched
and being searched can be tracked, targets (humans, animals, etc) found
and possible locations of other targets, dangerous areas for search (risk
to recovery task force) can be monitored, etc.
Most of the incomming intelligence information will be in the form
of human reports. Although you may want to consider incorporating the
possibility of new sensor data, like pictures/images taken at different
locations. This domain requires a well designed interface to adequately
capture the human report information. Think about what that information
could be and how you might require the user to enter it in and if you
might even let them select options for visualizing in doing so.
2) Enter in data in Interface of human intelligence reports. There could
be many possibilities, it might be fun to try to find an expert to ask.
Here is what I can think of off the top of my head....your group should
brainstorm.
a) items discovered: people, animals, other targets? metrics can associate
with each (and also uncertainties) are
- target identity
- target location
- target health
- target proximity to danger
b) areas searched: metric can associate with each instance (and also
uncertainties) is:
- center location of area search
- width of area searched
- length of area searched
- danger level of area searched
- special comments
c) current areas searching: metric can associate with each instance
(and also uncertainties) is:
- center location of area search
- width of area searched
- length of area searched
- danger level of area searched
- special comments
d) new sensor data?
e) other????
